M.Ch Vascular Surgery in Kerala.

Shri Chithra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences, Trivandram, Kerala has commenced three years M.ch Vascular Surgery higher speciality Course with one seat per year. This seat is open for the whole country. Prof. Unni Krishnan is the Professor and Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery at Shri Chithra.

NEW DEPARTMENT:

President Dr.Kumud Rai inaugurated the newly formed Department of Vascular Surgery at Shri Ramachandra Medical College & Research institute, Chennai. Professor K.S.Vijaya Raghavan heads the department.

 PLACEMENTS:

 Prof S.A.Hussain, past president of VSI and AVS, under whose dynamic leadership V SI scaled great heights has taken up a new responsibility abroad. He has become Dean, R A K College of Medical Sciences in U A E. V S I wishes him all the very best.

 Prof.T.Vidyasagaran has taken over from Prof.S.A.Hussain and is the present Professor & Head of Department of Vascular Surgery, Madras Medical College & Govt. General Hospital, Chennai.

Prof.M.Rajkumar, our executive committee Member has become the Prof and Head of the Dept of Vascular Surgery at Govt. Stanley Medical College,Chennai. Prof. M.Rajkumar, has also been honoured with the post of member, Board of Studies for higher speciality, Dr.MGR Medical University, Tamilnadu.

Prof .Rajagopal, former Treasurer of VSI has become the Professor & Head of Department of Vascular Surgery, Madurai Medical Collage, Madurai.; Prof.J. Amalorpavanathan has been appointed to head the newly created second unit of Vascular Surgery at the Madras Medical College.

VSI wishes them all the very best.

VSICON 2006:

VSI feels proud to announce that Dr.Rajiv Parakh handed over Rs.8, 49,000. [Yes. Eight lakh and Forty thousand rupees!] from VSICON 2006.This is one of the highest amount VSI has received so far and we hope Vadodara would exceed this.

Honors :

Dr.Kumud Rai and Dr.K R Suresh were invited speakers in the First WFVS  symposium held during the ESVS meeting in Madrid in September 2007. Dr.Suresh spoke on "Training and Education "and Dr.Rai spoke on "Political issues" Both were very well received.

 Dr.Kumud Rai was also instrumental in getting the S V S [U S A] membership at   a discounted rate to members of VSI. Some of our VSI members have already become members of SVS and we invite ALL the VSI members to grab this opportunity and become members of SVS. Annual fee is 150 USD only [normal price is 450 USD] this includes the annual subscription to the printed copy of Journal of Vascular Surgery.

 Dr.Kumud Rai was also responsible for VSI joining World Federation of Vascular Societies. [W F V S]. Kumud, we are all very proud of you!!!

Gold Medals:

 Sanofi Aventis has agreed to institute a VSI Sanofi Aventis Gold Medal for the  winner of the all India contest on DVT for post graduates of all specialties.

 Pfizer has agreed to sponsor a Pfizer VSI Gold Medal for the winner of all India  contest on Arterial Thrombo Embolism which is also open for PGs of all  specialties.
